A Cunning Fox and a Foolish Goat | The Story of a Fox and a Goat

This is a fable about a cunning fox and a foolish goat. Read the hints below and then the full story that follows:

[Hints: a fox fell into a well -- could not come out -- there came a goat -- the fox invited the goat to taste water -- goat jumped down -- fox got out]

There was a cunning fox in a forest and a foolish goat in the surrounding village. The fox was very curious by its nature but was a great careless. Once on a sunny day, it was roaming at the outer edge of the forest. Suddenly, it spotted a place covered with some dry leaves. Fox slipped into a well as soon as he took the initiative to search for something by removing the leaves with his feet.

The well was dug up by some villagers to trap perhaps a deer or an elephant. The level of water inside the well was very low for him. The fox tried several times but could not come out of the well because of its high walls all around. It was gasping for breath. Hours passed. The fox became hopeless to be rescued from there.

Meanwhile, a goat came to that place. It was munching here and there. Since the morning it had not drunk water. So, the goat felt terribly thirsty. As soon as he saw the well, he ran to it for water. He peeped over the wall of the well. The goat saw the fox inside. Before being asked anything, the fox welcomed the goat to taste the water. Out of flattery he also informed the goat that he was drinking the sweetest water so long.

The foolish goat was resolved and jumped into the well. With a blink, the cunning fox rode on the back of the goat and jumped out of the well. Leaning over the wall, the sly fox just smiled at the goat and ran away. Inside the well, the goat only repented for his haughtiness.
