Title: The Greedy Farmer and Golden Egg
There was a greedy farmer in a remote village by a hill. The village was not so familiar. The farmer had only a small plot of land where he built his hut. Most of the villagers of that village belong to his status.
There were so many lakes around. A good number of people living in that area tends to cultivate paddy crops using water from that lake. But that very farmer had a pack of geese. Sometimes he would also work in other's fields as he had no one. And the rest of the days he would spend time with them.
The farmer had a wife who would assist him a lot. They would manage their livelihood by selling eggs laid by geese and hens. Unfortunately, the couple had no son or a daughter. They were child worshipers. That is why they felt great affection for their pets geese.
One morning the farmer found to his surprise a different type of egg in the sty of geese. The farmer called his wife to observe it. She also remained puzzled but she perhaps guess it might be of gold. She whispered the news to his husband. Yet, he did not believe his spouse.
The next morning one more was discovered just like the previous one. The wife picked it up and kept it in the hut. The news of the second egg was kept secret from the husband. On the third morning, the husband got another egg that was like he got earlier. Until now, he didn't think it could be a golden egg.
In the afternoon, the farmer took those eggs along with others to the market to sell as he did before. As soon as he saw it, the egg seller realized that the eggs were gold. Of course, the seller was honest. He enquired the farmer about such eggs. The farmer asked the reason for his query. The seller informed that these were not real eggs but gold. He also suggested the farmer should sell these to some goldsmith.
The farmer was very happy to hear about the golden egg. Now he believed his wife's presumption. He returned home and told his wife the fact. She now confessed that she also collected one golden egg another day. They planned to sell them out in the city to get paid more than the village goldsmith might pay. Happily, none of them slept through the night. They were watching to see which goose lay on the golden egg.
At early in the very next morning, the farmer set out for the city. After the farmer was gone the wife detected the goose that laid golden eggs. She sold all other geese except that one. When the husband returned from the city, the wife told him she had sold other geese. The farmer was very happy to see his wife's intelligence. This reduced their troubles a lot.
The goose started laying one egg every day. The farmer ran to town with an egg every day. Thus they became rich by selling golden eggs daily. The farmer became very greedy because he got so much money in a few days. The farmer's foresight closed his eyes to the unexpected treasure trove. He became impatient.
There is a saying that money is the root of all evil. Superiority consumes him. He wanted to be richer. He dreamed of being the richest man in the village. The lazy brain fills the devil's intellect. To the wife, he told the rest of his will. His wife asked how could it be possible. He answered nothing and left her in suspense. The wife objected, but she was forced to give silent consent.
The greedy farmer could not sleep all night in the intoxication of being the richest. He only turned sideways in bed. Once his wife fell asleep, he quietly left the bed. He opened the door of the cage in the soft light. He grabbed the beak tightly and pulled the goose out. With a scythe bought from the city, he tore the stomach of the goose in a monstrous frenzy. He killed the goose at last. But he found no eggs inside the belly of the goose.
Now the scene was extremely horrible. He started screaming loudly and started tearing his hair. Hearing the screams, the wife left the house and saw her husband lying on the ground. He has blood all over his body and the bloody goose next to him. The helpless wife realized it was the madness of her reckless husband.
