A Haughty Woman

Write a story in about 100 words with the points given below and add a suitable title:

                                 A Haughty Woman 


It is a story of a haughty woman. Decades of years ago, there was a woman who had a pet. She was fond of a mongoose. She was alone in her house except for her tiny child. One day the woman had to go to the market leaving her baby at home. 

The baby girl was sleeping in a swinging bed in a room. Before leaving she convinced her pet mongoose well. The loyal creature started to guard the child sitting by her bed. There were bushes around the woman's place. A few minutes later suddenly a big cobra appeared there. It is known to everyone that snakes and mongooses are ever enemies to each other. As soon as the snake neared the baby the mongoose rushed to it.


They had a great fight. Both of them were soaked in blood. At last, the snake was killed by the mongoose. Then it took the snake away and left it in the bush. When the woman returned home and found the mongoose soaked in blood, she thought the pet had killed her baby. 

Without thinking further the woman slammed her mongoose with a sturdy stick and it died instantly. Dashing to her baby she saw it was still sleeping soundly. She collapsed on the ground and banged her head on the wall repeatedly repenting for the great mistake. Tears ran down her eyes. 

Moral: Look before you leap.
