In The Ambience of Corona/Part-1

                 In The Ambience of Corona

So far I was sure that no one in our village was infected with corona. Yet there is no end to the warnings. I am confined in the house to make the lockdown a success by stopping outside work. It's time to come back or go back home to the working people.

Except for a few people I never saw anyone else understand the importance of lockdown.

As much time as necessary, I went out of the house on the street, at the corner shop, I saw a gathering of many people. I saw them understand that this is the village. Corona is a microorganism. If not, he won't come. Who knows who is bringing it? These simple words are incomprehensible to the people of the village. One by one many people have returned and are returning home.

From the beginning of the lockdown, I didn't go to the shop without rhyme and reason and stopped the tea party. It was customary to have tea at home.  Retired father is also forbidden to go to the market and take tea. The only reason for this is to maintain social distance.

Every day, the number of corona cases in the world is increasing by leaps and bounds. The feeling that keeping oneself busy with these statistics is somewhat incongruous for rural life burns oneself. Even after a month of lockdown, I can't get rid of the thorns in my side. Happily, there was no news of any corona attack in my village, my panchayat area or even in my police station area.

But those five workers returned from the cold store in Jalpaiguri. They have come a long way.  Many have come close. Maybe thermal checking didn’t happen. Now they are in quarantine in the school building. The people of the house are going with the necessary food and drink. Drinking water has to be given from the tube well of the school.

Some neighbours collected drinking water from the tubewell. An apprehension remains. There are still ten days left to finish the current lockdown. They have only been here for two days. They may return home after the lockdown. They will know that the lockdown is over.

Yes, even if the country's lockdown is over, their fourteen-day quarantine will not be over then. So all the schools and colleges in the state have been closed till June 10 to deal with such a situation. These are the quarantine centres in rural areas. But if they do not understand them, the people of the house do not understand them.

Discounts have been given in the collection of rabi crops in the rural areas of the country. This is a very important decision in an agricultural country.  On that occasion, farmers are flocking to tea shops outside of working hours.

Some grocery stores offer tea. There is a risk of group infection from the crowd of unconscious people. I also see the elderly people who have tea in their homes spending hours in the tea shop. Though they're watching Corona's update on TV at tea, they seem to feel careless.

They are ruthlessly stagnant. The administration is helpless if there is no awareness among the common people. Not just ordinary people. Even well-meaning people are engrossed in ignorant behaviour. They walk in steadfast faith. There is no danger of corona curse in this village, in this panchayat or even in this police station.

Even the richest countries of the world may have thought so. We will take care of everything with our advanced medical services. But what a very different picture!
